When the institute was first established in 1994, it offered faculty in the arts. In 2009, it added colleges of commerce and science to its list of offerings. The Department of Chemistry was established in the same year and began offering undergraduate courses. Since then, the department’s undergraduate curriculum has expanded to include a Postgraduate Chemistry Programme. It now provides a certificate Programme that focuses on the construction and upkeep of fundamental knowledge. The department currently has two well-stocked laboratories with all the tools, equipment, and specimens needed. Two faculty members on a contract and four permanent faculty members meet the necessary standards for staffing.

About Chemistry
Chemistry is the branch of science that studies the composition, structure, properties, and changes of matter. It focuses on understanding how different substances interact, combine, and react to form new materials. Chemistry is often called the “central science” because it connects other fields like physics, biology, medicine, and environmental science. It is divided into several branches, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. Through chemistry, we learn about elements, compounds, atoms, and molecules, as well as chemical reactions that power life processes and industrial applications. It plays a vital role in everyday life, from the food we eat and the medicines we take to the fuels we use and the materials in our homes. Chemistry also helps in solving global challenges, such as developing clean energy, improving healthcare, and protecting the environment. Overall, chemistry is essential for understanding the world around us and for creating innovations that improve our quality of life.
